My Neck Of The Woods
I’ve really meant to post more.
However, as of late, life has been so busy and chaotic. My trip to South Africa with Team World Vision at the end of May feels right around the corner. This past weekend I was in St. Louis with a few friends running the St. Louis Marathon in order to qualify for the Comrades Marathon. I did qualify, in a time of 4:00:50! Money has poured in to support my costs for the trip, and now the challenge remains finding child sponsors through World Vision’s child sponsorship program.
Our team goal is to find 1,500 new sponsors. So far we are just shy of 200 as a team. I’ve found close to 20 so far with the help of some dear friends. So, for those of you reading, I would ask you to prayerfully consider sponsoring a child. For $35/month (the cost of a pop a day, eating out once/month as a family, a few coffees/week) you can LITERALLY change the life of a child and village FOREVER! That is what has motivated me to run a 56 mile race in South Africa.
The more time I spend thinking about this, the more I shake my head in amazement at how long I’ve spent thinking selfishly about myself. I think about how much money I’ve wasted over the years, knowing that money could have done so much good in our world. We are blessed beyond belief to live in these United States. We have more money than many in the rest of the world could ever dream of. Did you know that half of the world lives on less than $2 a day?
$2 a day!
I can’t even fathom that statistic! To help, I think of little kids like Asiimwe, a girl my family sponsors from Uganda. Seeing her face puts it all into perspective for me. When I put her face next to countless passages I read in the Bible (over 2,000 verses mention poverty), I can’t help but be moved to action!
Well, what about you. WHAT ABOUT YOU? My focus more and more is becoming finding sponsors for every kid I possibly can. Someone has got to advocate on their behalf, and that someone is ME! Please considering getting involved in a child’s life, a child just like Asiimwe. Investing in people is one thing that you will never, ever regret!
