Freezing Frost Advisory Run

Sunday, January 17th, 2010
Today was the second morning in a row that we had a freezing frost advisory, making the roads very slick.  The main roads were fine once I got to them, but the neighborhoods roads were slicker than snot.  So, the good news is that it didn't effect my run too much.  I had a 3 hr. run today and logged 18.6 miles, giving me 29.3 miles for the weekend!  Not too shabby, especially considering a week ago I finished my run limping because of my achilles.  I am hoping that is all healed up and done, although I will probably continue icing it for another week or so.  I'm looking at my first potential 2oo mile month this month if all goes well the… Read More

Easy week

Saturday, January 16th, 2010
Well, today was only my second run of the week because of my sore achilles.  I ran Wednesday real easy and then took two more days off before resuming my normal schedule today.  I felt great though today as I took it nice and easy for 1hr. 45min.  Scott Olthoff and I got 11 miles in.  Tomorrow is a big day with a 3hr. easy run.    With all that's gone on in Haiti this week with the need there, it's really given me a renewed sense of vision as to why I'm training for this Comrades event in South Africa.  There is so much need out there, and we have some many resources in the Western world.  This event is providing such an amazing opportunity… Read More

Achilles U Little Stinker

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010
My Achilles was pretty sore following Sunday's run.  I'm not really sure why because I never felt any one moment where I stepped wrong or anything like that.  I'm guessing it's in large part due to running lots of miles on snow and slush and constantly having to make sure footing is secure.  Probably just a little sore (I'm hoping).  So, I took yesterday off and decided against anything strenuous this week.  I ran and easy 7.5 miles this morning with a little stiffness and soreness, but nothing bad.  I'll try the same again tomorrow and then hope to get my normal long runs in this weekend.  That and lots of ice throughout the week!  This… Read More

Frustration/Goal still met

Sunday, January 10th, 2010
I attempted on two separate occassions to run on a treadmill today with no success.  This was very discouraging because I simply did not want to be out in the cold today.  But I decided that skipping my workout was not an option, so tonight at around 7:45pm I headed out the door for an hour and a half run.  It went really well as I broke in some new shoes.  I got 10 miles in, and probably would have done more but towards the end my achilles began to feel sore, so I backed it off quite a bit, and even walked for awhile so as not to injure myself.  Pretty good weekend though, with 27.38 miles in.  I've gotten almost 70 miles in already this… Read More

Long weekend run

Sunday, January 10th, 2010
I flipped tomorrow's long with with today so that I could run with my buddy Scott Olthoff.  I met him in Urbana for our 2hr. and 5omin. adventure together.  I wasn't sure what would happen at the beginning of the day as the air temperature was registering -10.  It quickly warmed up though and I was glad that we headed out.  We got in 17.38 miles which was pretty good considering some of the roads were still snow/slush covered.  Plus with the temps as cold as they were, I'd say this was a pretty good challenge for us.  Tomorrow I think I am going to try to hit up someone's treadmill for my workout because I'm tired of this cold weather! … Read More
