Godventure
Godventure.
This is what I’ve termed certain experiences in my life. Things that are adventurous to me and also involve a large focus on God. Thus the title: GODVENTURE.
An adventure with God. Life for me is actually one big Godventure. However, I’ve found that sometimes it helps me to break things down a bit, and get a little more specific.
Last year I took a weekend to go to a cabin belonging to some friends of mine for a time of reflection and relaxation. Godventure. This year…………
Comrades Marathon with Team World Vision. The more I think about this trip, the more overwhelmed I get. I mean, this is one of those things that truly I will not be able to accomplish unless God jumps in and does something miraculous. The training alone is a daunting task, as I’ve never before trained for a race longer than a 50k (and this is another marathon on top of that!). Add to that the cost of the trip, as well as trying to raise as many child sponsors as possible! To top things off, I am raising more money this year for Salt & Light because I received a payraise. That’s a lot of training, and raising of things, and not much free time for it all.
This is where the GOD part of Godventure comes into play. I was going over Ephesians 3:14-21 this morning and was struck by 2 things.
1) v.14 “My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificient Father who parcels out all heaven and earth.”
-When do I ever literally get down on my knees before God? Um…………….ok, next question please. Truly this is something I need to do more and more in my everyday life! I need to show God that respect, that act of worship.
2) v.20 “God can do anything, you know–far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!”
-How often do I limit God’s ability to work far beyond my wildest dreams? How often does my lack of faith hold me back? I realized this morning, that what it boils down to is that I still have doubts as to whether or not God truly loves me. I know in my head that He does, but sometimes my heart does not share this. Why would He do anything like this in my life?
Here’s my best guess: First, because He loves me so very much. The thought alone brings tears to my eyes. And second, because this trip is about helping change the lives of 1,500 children and families in a tangible way, right now! God is looking for people who are willing to be used, to accomplish His plan on this earth during this time. My involvement is by giving up many many hours through training and advocating on behalf of children all over Africa. Your involvement is to join with me by:
1) Praying for us!
2) Sponsoring a child! (or 5 or 10 and so on)
3) Becoming a Team Advocate, thus being responsible for finding 5 or more child sponsors.
What could be a better investment of your time and resources?
WHAT A TREMENDOUS GODVENTURE THIS COULD BE FOR YOU!
