8K TT

Thursday, December 17th, 2009
Today was another 8k Time Trial day.  I actually took yesterday off, because I've been so tired as of late.  I think a lot of is has to do with stress right now, plus I haven't slept good the past few days.  So, I decided it would be better for my body to stay in bed.   Today I did a 21 minute warm up, followed by an 8k TT (35:39/average of 7:14 miles) and then a 23 minute cool down.  I was pretty pleased with this.  I'm still shocked at the mileage I'm putting in already.  I'm already at 95 miles for this month with 2 full weeks left.  Just insane.   Just received some big news the other day concerning our trip.  Can't wait to begin… Read More

Sleepy

Tough workout today.  I'm really beginning to find as I increase my mileage the importance of sleep.  I used to be able to get a good long run in on 4 hours of sleep, but now I am needing more and more sleep to allow my body the rest it needs.    So, after only getting 5 1/2 hours last night, today's workout was a little tough.  But that's alright.  I had 20 minute warm up followed by 7-2minute hill repeats and then a 20 minute cool down.  4 of those 7 hill repeats ended up being directly into a 15-20 mph headwind which made it quite difficult running uphill.  Other than that it was fine.  I really did enjoy my day off yesterday.  Training… Read More

Much needed day off

Sunday, December 13th, 2009
Tomorrow I get a much needed day off.  I am whooped!  I actually fell asleep on the couch yesterday afternoon and slept for at least a total of two hours, one of which included 2 little girls horsing around in the same room.  However, I think that was the rest I needed to get out and have a decent workout today.   On today's agenda was an easy 2 hour run.  I made it to 1hr. 51min. before calling it a day.  It was nasty out, cold, a little windy at times, and rainy.  My feet were soaked the entire way, and the final straw was sloshing (defined by more than 4 steps) my way through a huge puddle of water with about 1/4 mile left.  I did… Read More

UGH…..

Saturday, December 12th, 2009
Today was supposed to be a 1hr. 20min. easy run.  Nothing about today's run was easy.  My body and mind felt tired in EVERY way imaginable.  Surprisingly enough, running is a very mental sport; I would say as much mental as physical.  It takes a whole lot of determination and perseverance.   Well, I got the run in, although I was a few minutes short of the 1hr. 20min. mark.  I got 8.78 miles in, so not bad overall.  I wanted to make sure I had something left for tomorrow's 2 hr. easy run.  It still shocks me to know that this will be my second week in a row of over 40 miles.  After tomorrow I'll have put more miles in during the month… Read More

Comrades Training Time Trial

Thursday, December 10th, 2009
Today's workout was a 20min. warm up, 8k (just under 5 miles) Time Trial, and 20min. cool down.  I skipped it this morning because it was just too darn cold.  Temps were in the single digits with wind chills around -15.  I knew that the day would get better, and that I could even just skip it this time around if need be.  I decided to go out this evening and give it a try, and was actually very pleased with the results.  It was still plenty cold, but I loved every minute of it and feel great that I didn't have to skip a workout the first official week of training.  Lots of people have suggested joining a gym for the winter months.  However,… Read More
