Almost a no go

Thursday, December 24th, 2009
I almost didn't make it out the door this morning.  It's cold, rainy, and windy out, and my hip flexor hurts from bowling the other day.  But I decided to brave the elements anyways and see if my muscles didn't feel any better after a little warmup.  They did, so I went for my weekly 8k TT.  Not too bad averaging 7:43 miles (not too bad for not feeling 100%).  Looking forward to taking Christmas day off tomorrow from running.  I'm pleased with today's effort though, considering all the facts.  Maybe I can get a quick nap in before everyone wakes up. Read More

Weary. In every sense of the word.

Weary.   I feel that way right now.   IN EVERY WAY IMAGINABLE.   I don't know what it is.  Either Satan is hitting me with everything he's got right now, or I've just made a complete mess of how I handle everything in life, or some of both.  I just feel weary and alone right now.  I feel like I hardly have enough strength left to breathe, and no one to lean on.  Whether that's true or not is irrelevant; that's how I'm feeling.  PERIOD.   Even my run today left something to be desired.  Because of a lack of rest lately (physically and emotionally) I feel exhausted at the end of each day.  Which translates into not sleeping very well… Read More

Hill repeats>Week 3

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009
I added another 2 min. hill repeat this week, bringing the total to 8 today.  This was preceeded by a 20min. warm up and 17min. 30 sec. cool down.  The weather was fairly decent, with temps in the low 30's but by the time I started my cool down the roads were starting to get a little slick.  I love the variety of workouts in this program, because it keeps things fresh for me mentally.  The chance to get different workouts in every day is refreshing.  Still a little unsure as to how this weekend will turn out, as I'll be traveling to Michigan for a few days.  I'll still get the running in, just not sure if I'll flip flop my weekend runs… Read More

Beauty

Few things seems quite as beautiful to me as snow on a winter evening.  Few things are as fun to me as the experience of going for a run in the snow on a winter evening.    I was actually supposed to get a 1hr. 20min. run in this morning, but with my parents in town, I decided to put if off until later in the day.  We don't get to see each other too often so I wanted to make the most of the time.  I sure am glad I wanted with the snow fall and everything.  Good workout, getting 9.8 miles in.  My legs and ankles sure feel it though.  The tough thing about running in snow is that your legs have to work harder to make sure your footing is… Read More

Flip Flop

Saturday, December 19th, 2009
Due to having family in town this weekend, I decided to do my 2 hr. scheduled run this morning instead of tomorrow morning.  A good friend Scott drove out to meet me this morning at 4:30 and we got 13.4 miles in.  Good times.  The scheduled day off yesterday was huge!  Felt pretty good and can't wait to get out tomorrow and run again.  I feel good with these workouts considering I'm still learning how to best implement walk breaks into these longer runs.  We even had a tiny bit of snow on the ground for our enjoyment. Read More
