Isaiah 53 (The Message)

Thursday, December 31st, 2009
I read this during my personal time this morning, and it totally gripped me!   "Who believes what we've heard and seen?  Who would have thought God's saving power would look like this?  The servant grew up before God--a scrawny seedling, a scrubby plant in a parched field.  There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look.  He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.  One look at him and people turned away.  We looked down on him, thought he was scum.  But the fact is, it was our pains he carried--our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us. … Read More

8k TT in the snow

Thursday, December 31st, 2009
This week's 8k TT was in the snow, and not fun.  However, surprisingly, I ran it pretty well considering the ground was a mixture of snow and slush.  22min. warm up, 8k TT in 36:17 (7:25 pace), and then 23 min. cool down made for an effective and satisfying workout this morning.  I ended up with 169 miles in the month of December, by far the most I've ever done in 1 month!  And the totals will just keep going up and up!  So, as we move into 2010 remember, Run hard and run well! Read More

Hill repeats (12.29.09)

Thursday, December 31st, 2009
I did these on my parent's treadmill this morning; mainly because they don't have much of a hill near them.  This week I added an extra 2 min. repeat bringing the grand total to 9 2min. repeats sandwiched by 2omin. warm up and cool down.  This was a much different workout than I've been used to because each repeat was completely uphill.  All my hill repeats to this point have been on overpasses with 1min. uphill and 1min. downhill.   On an honest level, I've been struggling as of late with negative thoughts.  The sheer challenge of this adventure is so beyond anything I've ever done, and this week it's been hard to stay positive about it. … Read More

Long run in the snow (12.27.09)

Thursday, December 31st, 2009
I skipped yesterday's long run because of how sick I was on Friday.  I didn't eat much and knew I needed the extra day to recuperate.  I wasn't sure when I would run today or for how long because I didn't know how I would feel.  Part of me thought I needed to get 2 hours in, but my mental capacity wasn't feeling it.   So, after opening up stockings with everyone and eating some breakfast, I decided to get dressed and head out.  The snow was falling quite rapidly, so I had low expectations.  However, after about the first mile and a half I knew it was going to be a good day!  All in all I completed just under 11.5 miles in 1hr. 42min. and… Read More

Living WITH God or FOR God

Friday, December 25th, 2009
Is there a difference?    I was sitting in my recliner this morning, alone, while my family is at my mother-in-laws house because I got sick in the middle of the night.  I supposed to leave tomorrow to my parents house for a few days.  I was sitting there watching  Hillsong Kids dvd, Tell The World and feeling sorry for myself in so many ways.    My mind floated back to a good friend's posting in facebook today.  It's Christmas day, and his question was something to the effect of should our focus be on giving and receiving gifts to each other, or to Christ?   I started thinking about my TWV Comrades Marathon trip, how our goal is to… Read More
