WANTED: GOOD DEED REWARD: GOES TO SOMEONE ELSE

“No man is worthy to succeed until he is willing to fail.  No man is morally worthy of success in religious activities until he is willing that the honor of succeeding should go to another if God wills.”  –A.W. Tozer

What a disheartening quote.  What a disheartening thought.  I mean, come on.  If I do something worthy of reward, it’s only fair to expect that recognition………………..RIGHT?

I came across these quotes this morning in daily devotional I’ve been reading on Christian leadership.  The human part of me always wants to be recognized for hard work, excellence, and good deeds.  Who doesn’t want to be recognized for those things?  But oh how easy it is to cross that line from serving Christ to doing good works for the recognition of it.  I can fool other people about my motivations all day long, but at the end of the day, I know what the reality is.

I am a flawed, selfish, disgusting human being.  Many times I perform good works because of the recognition.  Often I care more about being recognized than I do about the people I help.  DISGUSTING!

And yet, what’s more powerful?  My filth, or God’s goodness, mercy, and love?  My disgusting selfishness, or God’s unconditional forgiveness?

Love.

God’s unconditional love.

That’s what saved a wretch like me.  That’s where the hope lies, especially for those like me who aught to know better, who ought to be better, but many times are not.

THANK YOU FATHER FOR YOUR LOVE AND FORGIVENESS TODAY!  I LOVE YOU JESUS!
