Gripping Reality
Quick thought for today.
Mark 7:8 (NIV)
“YOU HAVE LET GO OF THE COMMANDS OF GOD AND ARE HOLDING ON TO THE TRADITIONS OF MEN.”
How guilty of this am I? I am nervous to even give an honest thought and some time to thinking through this. The writer goes on to say in verse 9, “And he said to them: ‘YOU HAVE A FINE WAY OF SETTING ASIDE THE COMMANDS OF GOD IN ORDER TO OBSERVE YOUR OWN TRADITIONS!”
How easy for me to fall into this trap! Oh, the self-righteous attitude that lives in me says I put God first, but in all reality, DO I?
DO I PUT GOD FIRST?
DO I SET ASIDE THE COMMANDS OF GOD IN ORDER TO OBSERVE MY OWN TRADITIONS?
DO I?
Phew, not easy questions for myself this morning. And yet, I’ve found, if I don’t hold myself extremely accountable to these types of things, who will? If I truly want to follow Christ, I MUST ask myself these questions, and answer HONESTLY!
And so, I pose these to you this morning. Answer HONESTLY! And then, pray that God would teach you to break through these walls. Ask God to follow through on His promises in Isaiah 42:15-16 in The Message.
HE WILL FOLLOW THROUGH!
